I have lived in the Coachella Valley for 21 years. Born and raised in Portland, Oregon. Served in the Portland Fire Bureau for 11 years with the last 6 of those as an Ariel Ladder Truck Engineer. Service was from 10-2-77 to 6-08, until shoulder injury forced retirement.
Before, during and consequently after the Bureau, I was in most phases of construction and finally in 1993 was licensed as a General Contractor in CA. I have been in the business one-way or the other for 27 years.
I started in the Valley as a Superintendent with “John Gregory Associates” in August 1988, who was a prominent builder in the area. After one year and during the next 4 years, I ran the total operation in the Coachella Valley as he moved to Newport Beach CA.
Our operation included commercial medical and office buildings, but primarily focused on high end million plus construction of residential homes in all the up-scale country clubs in the Coachella Valley.
After five years I received my own license in 1993, and launched J. N. Hayden Co. Inc. 10 years later started SUN DESERT HOMES LLC., under J. N. Hayden Co., to build track homes.
PROJECTS:
Starting with the last 15 years:
Numerous remodels at the Lakes Country Club. Continually had between 3 to 7 remodels underway for 2 years or more.
La Quinta Auto Plaza consisting of Mazda, Chrysler and Nissan. All constructed at the same time.
Project cost: 7.5 million
Custom Home at Quarry C.C. --5500 sq. ft.
Project cost: 1.4 million
Custom Home at Indian Wells C.C. --5000 sq. ft.
Project cost: $1 million
Beer Hunter Sports Bar & Restaurant -- 10,500 sq. ft. 2 story – project done 4 mos.
Project cost: $1.6 million
Executive Car Wash – 7500 sq. ft.
Project cost $1.1 million
Church Remodel and New Pre-School – 22,000 sq. ft.
Total Project cost $1.7 million
20 Custom Homes (Hovley Palms)
Project cost: approximately $6.5 million

Project of 132 homes in 6 phases. Built and sold out January of 2006.
MOUNTAIN ESTATES, INDIO CA.
123 home development. 27 homes built with total infrastructure completed. Project sold in 2007.
Summary;
I work closely with the owners of the project to get the clearest possible understanding of what is desired. Owner and builder being completely on the same page, and having the same understanding of details, are paramount in the relationship.
The last thing done or not done, is the first thing remembered by owner. Follow through, schedule and details are primary ingredients in my business philosophy. If your going to commit to it, get it done and do it right.
